These decorative objects were designed to captivate the eye.
Inspired by the exquisite patterns found in agate stones, I developed a colour palette that blends cool greens and blues with warm yellows and ochres. When applied to different clay bodies – such as porcelain, black, and flecked buff clay bodies –, carefully developed glazes combined with layers of grog, coloured slips, and oxide washes react differently and produce a unique effect. Arranged both geometrically and organically, these elements add depth and texture to create a complex surface with a unique colour interaction, which embraces and enhances the unique form of each piece.
Much like the discordant yet harmonious bands seen in an agate stone, these sculptures balance contrasting elements. They do, however, work well together to create a nice visual impression that encourages a deeper understanding of each piece.
