Between extremes
In an increasingly polarised world that feels ever more confined, I seek reconciliation through clay. My work bridges opposing forces: the fragile elegance of porcelain meets the rugged texture of terracotta, and glossy glazes contrast with raw, unpolished surfaces. Rather than concealing the inherent properties of these materials, I embrace them, allowing their unique qualities to coexist to create something different.
Using the traditional hand-coiling technique, I guide these contrasting forces, controlling some elements while letting others evolve freely. Each piece shows how opposites can harmonise, revealing the Interstice that exists between extremes. Through this process, my work creates a space where differences are not only acknowledged but celebrated as essential parts of a unified whole.
